Calibration & Measurement

Electrical Calibration

Electronic testing equipment is an essential component of all aspects of industry these days. To achieve the requirements or accuracy, a wide variety of different devices have been developed to suit every application. They include temperature probes, insulation testers, frequency counters, shunts, ammeters, RCD testers, soldering equipment, ohm meters, power supplies, millivolt meters, decade resistance boxes, electrostatic testers, meggers, signal generators, holiday detectors, mat-resistance testers, LCR testers, loop-impedance meters, earth resistance testers etc. Each of these instruments have been built to withstand daily use however they are fragile and should never been handled roughly. Even with normal wear and tear they will become inaccurate and require re-calibration.

Pressure Calibration

Analogues pressure gauges uses a Bourdon Tube to transmit the applied pressure to the needle mechanism. However they sometimes indicate a slightly lower pressure when going up in pressure than when falling – this is called hysteresis. Some analogue pressure gauges are liquid filled (Glycerin) – this helps to lessen the impact on the mechanism when the gauges are subject to frequently large variations in applied pressure.

Digital pressure gauges generally use a strain gauge to convey an electrical signal to the read-out. Pressure gauges should not be subjected to impact such as being dropped as the Bourdon mechanism and strain gauge mechanisms are easily damaged or become inaccurate.

Differential pressure gauges measures the difference of 2 input pressures, while vacuum gauges measures negative pressure and is a removal of atmospheric pressure.

Pressure measuring devices is widely used in all industries, ranging from Oil and Gas, Marine, General industries, Pharmaceutical,Process industries, Research laboratories, Military and etc.

Torque Calibration

A Torque wrench is an extremely helpful and very often vitally accurate piece of equipment for any skilled workman, engineer or contractor which allows the user to accurately measure the static torque applied to a nut, bolt or fastener.

The accuracy of a Torque wrench is vital for the correct application of tightening/ torque being applied to a nut, bolt or fastener.Undertightening can and will lead to insufficient thread loading marking the tightened object unsecure while over tightening will stretch the nut or bolt beyond its ability to recover causing possible weakening and premature failure.

This is best achieved through regular calibration by technicians who are specialists in the field. There are varies type of torque measuring devices to handle each and every application. They are setting torque wrench, dial torque digital torque wrench, torque meter, torque tester and analyzer, torque multiplier and etc.Torque tools should be regularly verified as physical shocks can cause a drift in the measurement.

Photometry and Radiometery

A photometer is defined as an instrument for measurement of visible light. Luminance and illuminance meters are the most common photometers and are easily available as turnkey systems.

Their purpose is to measure the illumination level in the varies industry and provide the solution for significantly increasing the efficiency of its lighting system.

A radiometer is a device for measure the intensity of radiant energy. Radiometer are extensively used in material testing, research, laboratory testing, manufacturing and etc.

Both the photometers and radiometers should be cleaned and aligned annually so maintain the high level of accuracy required for the purpose.

Liquid Flow Calibration

Flow meters are devices that measure the amount of liquid that passes through them. Some flow meters measure flow as the amount of fluid passing through the flow meter during a time period (such as 100 liters per minute).Other flow meters measure the totalized amount of fluid that has passed through the flow meter (such as 100 liters). Volumetric flow meters directly measure the volume of fluid (Q) passing through the flow meter. The only flow meter technology that measures volume directly is the positive displacement flow meter. There are varies type of flow meters to handle each and every application. They are positive displacement, paddle wheel, coriolis mass, magnetic, variable area, vane style, vortex and etc. Flow meters should be regularly verified as it involves application that require accurate volume transferred for the process.

A Hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity ( or relative density) of liquids; that is , the ratio of the density of the liquid to the density of water. Hydrometers are specifically used in research laboratories, water treatment plants, chemical plants, oil testing, breweries, alcohol plant and etc. Modern hydrometers usually measure specific gravity but differenr scales are used in certain industries:

Ex. API gravity, Baume scale, Brix,Plato scale and etc.

Mass & Weighing Calibration

Mass sets are classified in the order of E2, E1, F1 and F2 and etc. It is crucial that the mass are calibrated periodically to ensure that the weighing devices calibrated are accurate .Accuracy will greatly improve the efficiency and provide cost effective solution to the industry.

Many factors cause weighing balances to give inaccurate or erratic readings. We will assume that your weighing balance is electronic as there are very few mechanical balances in use these days.

Ensuring the weighing devices are free from vibration, air currents, solid mounted, accurate levelling, temperature gradient are factors affecting the errors in measurements.

Regular maintenance from cleaning to dusting , in addition to periodical calibration will extend the life of the weighing devices.

Magnetism measuring devices are used for measurement of magnetization of a magnetic material like a ferromagnet, or to measure the strength and, in many cases , the direction of the magnetic field at a point in space. They are widely used for measuring the Earth’s magnetic field and in natural case used as metal detectors.

Magnetism devices have a very diverse range of applications, including locating objects such as submarines to research laboratories, Military operations, Oil and Gas drilling, mineral exploration, mobile telephones and etc.

They are of course many types of magnetism devices from magnetometer, gauss meter, tesla meter, magnetic field meter and etc.

The devices should be regularly verified as it involves application that require the device to be sensitive and accurate.
